Taste of Kerala Prawns, Crabs and Kudumbis



The Kudumbis are a race that came to Fort Kochi with the Gowda Saraswat Brahmins. They adjusted well with the society of Fort Kochi and soon merged with the culture there. The Kudumbis are basically non vegetarians and crabs and prawns are favorites.

Sukha Sukatha Ukkeri
1.Dried and salted prawns ¼ kg
2.Ginger chopped to pieces 2 table spoon
3.Button onions 68 Nos.
4.Green chillies 45 Nos.
5.Curry leaves 1 bunch
6.Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
7.Mustard seeds ½ teaspoon
8.Dried red chillies 2 Nos.
9.Oil As required.

How to prepare
1. Heat a frying pan and roast the dry salted prawns. This is then soaked in water for 20-30 minutes.
2. Oil is heated and the ginger, green chillies, Curry leaves and Onions are sautéed well.
3. The turmeric powder and prawns are now added.
4. Add salt to taste, sprinkling some water. Mix the prawns well till it is dry.
5. The Mustard seeds, curry leaves and dry red chillies are tempered and added to the prawns.
